Fasting

Fasting is another simple, not complex way of God for us—to know Him, to be near Him, to honor and glorify Him. We’re not spending money on food, we’re not spending time shopping for, preparing, eating, and cleaning up after food. Fasting is essentially free, it’s personal, and most anyone anywhere can do it any time.

It isn’t complicated; God’s not asking us to jump through hoops, but just to exercise authority over our flesh, to push it down and away so our desire and our faith can rise up. To remove self from the throne of our life and allow Him to reign from His rightful position; to put Him and His kingdom and His righteousness first. Then the order of everything else of our existence and purpose and God-honoring doing flows from that royal sourcing in supernatural fashion. Supernatural doesn’t mean magical or mystical, but what is supreme over the natural, higher than the limits of our created nature, beyond what mankind by himself is able to do.

Fasting is a posture of seeking, the position where we have placed our “self” in relation to what or who we are pursuing.
He must increase, but I must decrease.
~John 3:30

Fasting is acknowledging our requiring of God first and over what we’re bringing to Him.
God, You are the:
*Healer
*Provider
*Guide and director
*One who sees the whole picture
*One who knows what’s best
*One who honors us when we come to You AS You
*Faithful One, true to Your nature

God, we need You supreme in our hearts, our hurts, our homes; we need You as the guiding authority in the spiritual leaders of families, communities, work places, and God-serving churches. God, we need You supreme over societies and cultures and oppression; we need You in all the ways we have strayed further and further from Your design and intention for men and women. We need You supreme over hunger and abuse and the breakdown of family structure. We need You supreme in war and in peace. We need You in the wind, the earthquake, the fire, and the stillness of our heart.

Here are our loaves and fishes; do what only You can do.
